CLC director lectures in Ethiopia
The director of the Community Law Centre, Professor Jaap de Visser, taught a week-long course on Local Government and Decentralisation for the PhD students at the Center for Federal Studies at Addis Ababa University.
The teaching takes place as part of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Community Law Centre and Addis Ababa University's Centre for Federal Studies in terms of which the two centres collaborate around postgraduate research.
The course looked at the role of local government in Ethiopia, Nigeria and South Africa. Students discussed materials on the policy debates around decentralisation, constitutional recognition of local government, funding local government and intergovernmental relations.
